Application Fee:

  • Fee is USD 200, non-refundable.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • A 4 yrs Bachelor's degree or equivalent to US bachelor’s degree.
  • No minimum Full-time work-ex is required but most students have 2 to 5 yrs of full-time professional work experience. Small no. of outstanding applicants with less than 1-yr full-time experience are accepted.
  • A GMAT or GRE score is needed but no minimum score required. Recent class profiles have median score of 700.
  • Applicants whose native language is not English must fufill the English language exam requirement. Cornell accepts the following exams: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or the Pearson Test of English.
    • On the new the internet-based version (iBT) of the TOEFL a minimum total score of 100 with recommended sectional scores of minimum 25 is required. On the IELTS, a minimum score band of 7 is required with preferred minimal scores of 7 on the speaking and writing modules.
    • Some applicants may qualify for a waiver of the English language exam requirement based on the following conditions.
      1. Completion of an undergraduate degree with instruction exclusively in English. This condition only applies for educational institutions located in countries with English as an official language.
      2. Completion of three or more years of full-time work in a country where English is an official language.

Supporting Application Materials:

The supporting documents to complete the online application are - Academic:
  • Applicants can use any of the two options for providing the academic records. Upload scanned image files of the transcripts in the online application or you can request official transcripts from the institutions attended.
  • If uploading scanned image files of the transcripts in the online application then official transcripts are needed upon receiving an offer of admission.
  • International candidates must submit a certified copy of their diploma indicating the degree received. International transcripts may also require official translation into English by a certified translator.
GMAT or GRE: 
  • Provide GMAT scores in the application.
  • Application will remain incomplete until Cornell obtain Official score report or a scanned copy of the official score report.
  • All accepted students must provide official test scores prior to matriculation.
  • Scores must be no more than five years old.
  • Cornell’s code for the Two-Year MBA program is 5JW-BM-96
  TOEFL: 
  • Scores are valid for 2 years only.
  • TOEFL Reporting Code: 2098

Interview:

  • An interview is required prior to admission.
  • Interviews are scheduled by invitation only.

Fall 2012 Full-time MBA Essay Questions

The essay portion of the application gives applicant the opportunity to candidly demonstrate their attributes and compatibility with Cornell’s rich and vibrant program. Formatting suggestions: 12 pt. font, Times New Roman, single spacing.
Please observe the word limit for each essay.

Essay 1: What career do you plan to pursue upon completion of an MBA degree and why? (400 word limit)

Essay 2: What legacy would you hope to leave as a Johnson graduate? (200 word limit)

Essay 3:  You are the author for the book of Your Life Story. Please write the table of contents for the book.Note: Approach this essay with your unique style. We value creativity and authenticity. (Required essay) (400 word limit)

Reapplicant Essay: How did you strengthen your application since you last applied? (400 word limit)

Optional Essay: Complete this essay if you would like to add additional details regarding your candidacy. For instance, if you believe one or more aspects of your application (e.g., undergraduate record or test scores) do not accurately reflect your potential for success at the Johnson School. (400 word limit)

Activities

Collegiate Activities and Employment - List your extracurricular activities while in college in order of importance to you. You may include details about your positions and the time commitment, honors or awards received, and dates of participation. The list may also include part-time and summer employment held while in college. Please list your employer, job title, responsibilities, hours per week, and the dates for each position.

Post-Collegiate Activities - List community activities (clubs, church, civic, etc.) and professional associations you contributed to since graduation from college. Please include the organization name, your role, hours dedicated, elected offices held, and dates of participation. 

Hobbies and Activities - Please describe any hobbies or activities that hold special significance for you.
  • Recommendations/Evaluations:
    • Submit two reference letters. Recommenders may submit their forms electronically. If the recommender cannot complete an electronic form, applicant may download a copy of the two page Letter of Evaluation Form . The recommender must then complete form and return it in a signed, sealed envelope.
    • Cornell prefers at least one letter from an immediate supervisor. If you are unable to obtain a letter of recommendation from your immediate supervisor, use your best judgment when selecting an alternative recommender (such as a colleague, client, or former supervisor) and explain your selection in the optional essay.
    • In general, school prefers recommendations from professional contacts that know the applicant well and can provide details about his/her skills.
